“As to methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”
Why we train...
The sad truth is that most people are not prepared to deal with or to survive violence. This is true even among those whose job it is to be ready for, and deal with violence and critical incidents involving violence. Most people do not even think about violence until it is upon them. That simple fact alone is half the reason that many victims of violence don't survive the encounter. There are many reasons human beings resort to violence. Some have no moral compass, or conscience, others are desperate or mentally ill and still others ingest mind altering substances which skew their thought patterns and behavior toward violence. The fact is that it matters not why a person or group is violent once they have acted. The only thing that will do at that point is to render them non functional. What we will do, is help individuals and groups understand the dynamics of violence and how to employ the most effective counter measures. |
